Salt Water Pools are Healthier<\/b><\/h2>\n

As sustainability-focused designers and builders, we\u2019re always seeking new ways to go green, minimize chemicals, and promote healthy living. <\/span><\/p>\n

Going chlorine free certainly has its benefits: Salt water pools are easier on skin, hair, nails, and your eyes. The salt also softens the water which makes it so much more relaxing while you\u2019re swimming!<\/span><\/p>\n

Costs of Salt Water Pools<\/b><\/h2>\n

Salt water pools will cost you more upfront, but good news for long-term planners: They are easier and less expensive to maintain overtime, compared to traditional chlorine pools. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"Salt<\/p>\n

With that said, they are not <\/span>completely<\/span><\/i> chemically-free. The salt does actually produce a small amount of chlorine, itself–enough to minimize ongoing maintenance. Salt water pools also require more electricity to maintain them, so your operating costs will likely be higher.<\/span><\/p>\n

And because salt water pools are more complicated than traditional pools, if maintenance is needed, you\u2019re going to want to call in a specialist or technician, rather than your run-of-the-mill pool boy.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Note on Building Materials<\/b><\/h2>\n

Salt is corrosive, so you need to be sure that materials made to build pool are able to withstand. Additionally, the same applies to any tile or surface surrounding the pool.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another element to consider is the salt\u2019s impact on any surrounding plants: There are actually a number of areas which prohibit the installation of residential salt water pools because of the water\u2019s ability to dissolve nutrients in soil. Be sure to check that you\u2019re in the clear! <\/span><\/p>\n
